wool blanket for bottom insulation?

Has anybody used a wool blanket for bottom insulation? I have a WBBB 1.7 DBL And was thinking about how it would work laying a wool blanket in between the 2 layers in place of a CCF pad.

it'll work great, but only down to about 40*F on it's own. Adding a ccf pad will extend that more depending on it's thickness...

I do it all the time on my porch and it works great, but I haven't tried sleeping over night.

Thank you for the replies. That is kind of what I thought. I will be going on a three night motorcyle ride (4th of July weekend) and I do not have a UQ yet. For a little cash I could pick up a heavy wool blanket and be set.

I tried it, with an Army wool blanket, in a mesh hammock, many years ago. It was not worth the weight of carrying the thing backpacking but it did give some good warmth. You might have better over all results since you have a machine to haul it for you. Combine it with a poly pad or a yoga matt and you might be doing good.
I am a great lover of natural materials, wool and down in particular.

I also motocycle camp and last year got stuck in unexpected cold weather. I did not use my wool blanket as a UQ but did put it inside my hammock and laid on it. It worked pretty good. I had a DIY maybe 50F UQ under me another DIY maybe 50 TQ over me so I used the wool blanket under me and a picked up a fleece blanket to put on top of me. Temps dropped to high 30's overnight (heavy frost) with 30MPH north winds gusting all night. I used a hot water bottle and slept like a baby all night.

Thanks for the links. Some good info there. I have room to bring both, and the CCF pad does not wiegh enough to worry about.

Not worried about things being heavy. I will be the only guy on a motorcyle. The others will be on 4-wheelers with trailors. I will be the only one with a hammock. (i bet at least one or two convert)

You can also use animal pelt rugs - they are quite warm and are easily recycled. I find they block the wind really well because they have that extra layer of skin.

That would give me something to do with the hide when I shoot a bear. Bear skin underquilt. Its got a nice ring to it.

I saw your other thread. That looks like it might work well. I have seen sheep skins used as seat pads on motorcyles, wondered how well they work. might be a duel perpose thing.
