As a new hanger, I thought I'd introduce myself...
I've become a fairly avid 3-season day-hiker over the past few years after moving from Albany (NY) back to the Finger Lakes area (where I grew up). I've definitely been taking advantage of the many state forests in the surrounding counties, along with the Finger Lakes Trail and associated branch trails.
For 2014, I wanted to start backpacking in order to boost my mileage per trip and increase the trails available to me. So, September 2013 I started researching equipment and stumbled upon the brave new world of hammocks. Within a month, I'd purchased a used Warbonnet Blackbird from a gentleman on the internet. Then, Black Friday arrived and I couldn't resist the fantastic deals. I bought a Warbonnet Mambajamba tarp and a Wilderness Logics 3/4" UQ. In January, my birthday present to myself was a Hammock Gear Burrow; Birthday cash from parents purchased a new Gossamer Gear pack. Other odds and ends soon followed.
And, then I waited for warmer temperatures to arrive... and I waited... and I waited. Today, the daytime temperature approached 40 degrees with near full sun, so I finally hauled my equipment into the woods for practice setting up. Great success! Set-up the WBBB and WL UQ, before taking a chance relax in the hammock for an hour.
An overnight will have to wait a few more weeks, but I'm definitely ready, thanks to all the helpful information I've collected here on HammockForums. So thank you everyone! I look forward to participating more in the forums in the coming years.
