So you use an underquilt even in the summer, got it. I dont want to carry around a pad too
    I checked out this thread:
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=8181

It talks about the Old Rag Mountain top quilt and others, It looks like people don't use a sleeping bag if their in the hammock. I will have to see how I am with getting in/out of the bag in the hammock.

Knock yourself out. It took me all of part of one night to kiss off the into/out of idea of the sleeping bag. I still use a sleeping bag but now I just open it up and use it quilt style. I like the big size of the sleeping bag because I like to tuck it under me for extta shoulder warmth. But a lot of people find a regular bag is too full and uncomfortable so they prefer quilts designed for hammocks.

I also prefer bags with partial length zippers (another quirk of mine) because it makes a ready to go foot box.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I use a Campmor Down Bag for both top and under insulation. It works well for me. Got the idea from Jeff's website.

My seasonal changes really depend on what I feel like experimenting with at the time. Here's an example of each setup.

    Summer - 60+ F
Choice of hammock (Usually Warbonnet El Dorado or homemade but waiting for field time with the Blackbird)
Homemade synthetic half-underquilt (gonna sew tabs on the Blackbird to make this even easier)
Gossamer Gear Nitelite pad if needed for legs (already carried for backpack frame)
    JRB Stealth top quilt
    MacCat Standard

    Winter - 0-20F
Hammock (same as above but sometimes with the DownHammock)
    JRB Mt Washington Underquilt
Sierra Designs Wicked Fast plus No Sniveler for top insulation
    JRB 10x11 tarp

Sometimes I'll use an Exped Downmat 7 for bottom insulation and the Mt Washington and JRB Hood inside the hammock.

I have a few winter plans once I get some more cold weather for testing (moving to Colorado Springs in January). Gonna get my winter half-underquilt design dialed in and maybe make another one from olive drab DWR. Probably gonna cut the last two baffle sections off the JRB Nest and add that down to the other sections at some point, too.

Oh - and FYSA the GoLite Ultra is on sale right now for $157 at backcountrygear.com. Rated at 20F...same one that everybody freaked out about for $135 earlier. If I hadn't missed the sale I would have bought one at $135 since I'm outfitting 4 people for Colorado camping...still considering it at $157 for 19 ounces of 20F goodness.

Pending orders, I'll move to Colorado Springs in January. Gonna have to meet up for a good ole fashioned Winter Hang...sub-zero style!

    Cool; literaly!

I know that I'm up for a winter hang and I'm betting warbonnetguy would join us too. Then we can get Seth from TrekLight and food lives here. I think Rockstar is out here now too, plus a couple of other hangers I see listing Colorado as home on HF. I already know a couple of good spots for digging in for the night.

We can make big ol igloos and hang inside.

How about a snowshoe trip? Gonna hafta be deep snow at the higher elevations by the time I get settled. Maybe a normal trip shortly after I get there, then a snowshoe trip in Feb-Mar timeframe. Should probably start another thread as the time gets closer so we don't hijack this one!

At 19 oz i would beware wether the temp rating is true or the weight is off something is up when they claim a lower weight for the warmth than a nunatak arc quilt.
