    what thread to use

    hi i am going to make a couple of tree straps out of some webbing
    what thread do you recommend for the loads involved.

    100% polyester thread for all of our uses. I prefer Gutermann Tera 40 for straps but Mara 70 is more than adequate and is a better choice for other projects using fabric.

    However, standard weight 100% polyester thread like Mettler Metrosene Plus and Gutermann Sew All can be used as well with a few more stitches.

    I use nylon upholstery thread. It's pretty heavy but will stretch some rather than break like some smaller polyester. Polyester is more abrasive resistant but won't stretch.

    There are many home machines that will not handle nylon thread. In part because the stretch messes up the tension adjustments. Any high quality 100% polyester threads will be fine and much more compliant with home machines.
