Thinking of going back to the ground.

Convince me not too guys, but as a family we have been talking of going back to the ground. Lots of places for us to visit and camp but many don't have suitable trees or enough trees to hang as a family. Firgure 3 hammocks and a brown fury one. At our new place there aren't any ways to hang short of putting 6x6 posts in the ground and my future of packing has been pretty much squashed due to a shoulder injury and I can't handle weight being on my shoulders. But boy o boy is the hammock comfortable... The wife has already been researching the new UL cots made by Therm A Rest and they do look nice.

    GAH!

You can always make 3 stands. Those cots are not cheap and cots are much better with an air mattress. So if your going to haul all of that......I would go with Turtledog stands

If you're going to be car camping anyways, take a serious look at portable stands. I carry one pole and the stakes/lines for it for when I can only find 1 decent tree in an organized campsite.

By the time you're car camping you're carrying a whole lot of stuff you wouldn't think of packing into the bush so for 3 of you, three poles and six stakes won't even be noticeable.

Oh and a whole lot less expensive than buying a tent and three of the luxurylite cots.

Any recommended portable stand you might recommend to start looking.

If you are going to be car camping, then you could look at doing the portable hammock stand in the Ultimate Hang. It's a tensegrity structure using 2x4's and cordage to hang 3 hammocks. Another option is to hang the 3 hammocks off one three in a spoke configuration and make a set of bipods to support the other end of each hammock.

    Cheers

Wowowow. No way you can go back to ground. Once a hammocker, there's no way back i'd say.

Brian that is a lot of work to setup 3 hammocks, I'll have to see if I can find something smaller as I don't plan on taking a truck to haul all that wood. Also each hammock needs a tarp as well so spoking a tree may be possible though in IA it is technically not allowed to hang from trees on state property last i knew.

I never left the ground. I don't let trees or the lack of determine where I want to go.
There is nothing wrong with having both setups.
