Using carabiners at each end of my hammock

Looking at doing this for my hammock. The rope installed from the factory just seems like junk and trying to make a quicker more efficent setup. Here is a picture from the net that is like I want to do.

Whats your take? Pros & Cons.

That will work well and give you a "mini spreader bar" effect also

It seems a little annoying. What happens when you go to attach your hammock, and it keeps sliding off when you clip it? I'm not trying to spoil your fun, if you want to try it, it's really easy to run some cord back through. I just thought I'd give my input. I ran WB buckles the the channel of my Eno, and use the webbing, and I love it.

I use that config. on my gathered end hammocks. Like TZBrown said, it will give you a slightly more relaxed footbed ala mini spreader effect.

I have done that before as well. I have not ever seen any problems with it other than the little personal preference things.

One way to keep the hammock 'in place' on the carabiner would be to improvise a 'sling retainer'.....

You can make something using a bit of bike tube...I do this to keep the tow lines and slings from slipping on the carabiners used in my kayak gear. BTW, for climbing I would use a commercial sewn sling or a knotted sling and I wouldn't put heat shrink over it. Actual pic below:

BTW, an oval carabiner would work better in this application IMO since you could put the gate opening away from the hammock, but they are a bit heavier.

EDIT: A big thanks to Jay for pointing out (in a PM) that the first web pic I posted here (now deleted from my message) illustrated a suicidal setup!! Alsways get a buddy to check your climbing gear!

that biner looks a little on the skinny side, so you'd get a less drastic mini spreader efect. but if you don't mind that, it should work fine.

Looks good. I'd ditch the wire gate and use full ovals.
    YMMV
