Whats the smallest tarp I can use with a down UQ and keep it pretty dry?

So I currently use a Edge Tarp on a WBBB with down a UQ. I'm interested in getting a lighter/smaller hammock and tarp. I use down UQ's in the jungles of Thailand. This means that most rain will come from above dripping off or through the jungle canopy. How small of a tarp (name of tarp, size wise ,etc) would you recommend as the smallest i should go. Could I safely get away with an small Hennessey Hammock original tarp? Or not? Thanks all.

What about a diamond asym tarp paired with a UQ protector?

Wow!! That's what i like about the HF. I disappear for a few months and up pops something I've never seen before, the UQP. Very interesting. Educate me please. If I have an Edge tarp and switch to a Diamond Asym tarp and UQP won't the packed volume in essence be quite similar? Hence no savings in packed volume? Thanks for the light shining and introducing me to a new product.

    Please keep the recommendations coming!!

I don't think you will find much smaller than the Edge with adequate coverage. I was going to suggest the Wilderness Logics Tadpole but I don't think it's any smaller.

If you want lighter, buy cuben.

A cuben tarp would probably get you lighter if not smaller plus it is not absorbent compared to nylon which packs up a bit heavier when wet.

Hammock Gear makes a nice hex tarp, but for the extra 1.5 oz. of a 4 season you get doors. Doors add a bit of rigging and stake weight back into the equation but I think you'll probably still be lighter than silnylon tarps hex.

Warbonnet used to make a diamond tarp, but they stopped selling it a long time ago. MacCat sells a "Micro" tarp that is a bit smaller and lighter than the Edge (120" x 60", 7.4 oz) - I don't think that you could go any smaller. You could go lighter with Cuben, and there are a couple of makers that make smaller tarps than HG. ZPacks, for example, also does a Cuben diamond tarp. I doubt that you could save any more weight and size

MLD appears to have a few SpinnTex tarps left, 4.4 oz.

The tarp size becomes less of a concern with the mentioned UQP. It's a good idea even with a winter tarp to keep any blowing moisture, rain, dew, away from the UQ.

If you carry a poncho, you can even use it for double duty as an UQP. Just whip the ends and attach to your suspension line remembering to not squish the UQ in the process. The poncho will also add a little warmth, but caution as it's also a vapor barrier. When it's warm out, you can use this instead of an UQ to stop wind heat loss thru convection.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

My main concern is minimizing space. The Cuben stuff i have handled was definitely lighter, however it did not compress and pack as small as Sil-Nylon.

So it looks like it may not be possible to go much smaller than the Edge tarp and still keep my UQ dry?

Thanks for the link Grannypat. After Bushwhacker suggested the UQP I did a search and saw the vids. However compared to my Edge tarp if i went to a small diamond Asym and the UQP it seems it will not pack any smaller than my Edge tarp? If I'm missing something obvious please let me know.

Again thanks everyone for the pointers.
