Oware has silicone coated nylon 2nds for $49 for 18 yards with free shipping. Has anyone used this fabric? Would it be good for tarps and maybe a rain suit/poncho?

A few weeks ago Oware had a great price on silnylon 3rds that I just could not pass up. I have yet to get it out into the field but I am in the process of making a ponch/tarp and it looks great with only a few minor cosmetic blemishes. My 3rds passed the breath test so I am confident it will hold back the water. As of now, I would not hesitate to buy from them again.
I know others have purchased from Oware before so I am sure you will get some more experienced feed back.
Silicon coated and silicon impregnated are two different processes. Coating is applied, impregnated is saturated. Make sure you know which you are getting. Beyond the processing differences, the quality of 2nds varies widely. I am not familiar with Oware as a company or this fabric in particular so I am not making any statement beyond ask the obvious questions of the supplier before buying. A fabric which is 2nds because of an uneven dye job is a different issue than an uneven coating resulting in untreated areas which will leak in the rain.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

The price does look unbeatable. Wish I needed some.
Oware has sold off seconds a couple of times this year. Here's some previous posts if it's of any help.

May have cosmetic defects, but otherwise good for anything sil is good for. Great price too.
There's discussion of this in the fabric's forum under the thread "Where do you get your Sil", or something like that.
Thanks for all the info.. I ordered and will report back with the quality of the fabric
I have 20 yds of the brown that I paid $55 for. I might have to clear off some floor space tonight and start drawing out the tarp.
I picked up some of the sil-nylon impregnated ugly thirds and they actually aren't that bad. 30 yds came in two sections.
So my 20 yards came as two 10 yard pieces, which is perfect for my project. There are some streaks here and there but you almost have to look for them. uploadfromtaptalk1397004264545.jpg
