First question, new to the forum!

Hey guys I've been doing a lot of reading on the forum for a while now and finally am getting started in the "hanging world". I am a big DIY person mostly because of the satisfaction that comes along with it, but also to save money. I have a piece of tyvek coming tomorrow in the mail that is 9' x 11' and have been looking at the different tarp shapes and sizes. I am really just wondering what is the best shape/size tarp for an ENO singlenest I plan on using for 3 seasons. I would like a good amount of coverage for the hammock and am not a huge gram weenie. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

    Welcome, first of all.

The most popular tarp is a hex shape. You'd be able to make a pretty nice sized tarp with that tyvec.

Rectangles are popular, which you already have: 11 x 9 ft. I wouldn't do anything to the shape.

I would also leave it a rectangle. Put tie-outs 2.5' in from each corner to make doors.

I'd also leave it as is for now since you are not worried about weight. It wouldn't take too much to convert it to a hex tarp with cat cuts later if you wanted.

For simplicity and coverage, you've got the ideal tarp in the mail. It's when you start looking for ways to cut ounces that things get tricky

Thanks so much guys! This forum is great I have to say that. The tyvek was ordered off a reliable source on eBay and comes with 8 loops for ties outs what is the best place to put these? I understand what a ridgeline is and is it necessary if I left the tarp 9x11? Should I just put tie outs on all corners and two in the middle to tie to the ridgeline? That would leave me with 2 extra loops?

Place them about 2 to 2 1/2 feet in from each corner along the bottom edge. This would give your the versatility of a hex tarp with doors as well as the regular rectangle tarp. Oops just realized you only have two extra tie outs, but you could use some gorilla tape or such to make the other two.

Are you talking about the extra two loops? I just didn't know if I needed one in the middle of the 11' sections on both sides so I would have 1 on each corner and one at 5.5' ?
