    Reducing the fiddle factor

As a Noob I have to agree with a member who recently opined that hammocking needs to get a more foolproof method of insulation for beginners.. I enjoy fiddling, but I think I'll have a hard time convincing friends it's a lot of fun... I gravitate to my ridgerunner because its so much easier to keep a pad or underquilt in place. My question is what is the easiest underquilt to use on gathered end hammock like a blackbird? I'm guessing its full legth and generous width; any opinions?

For a full length, gathered end hammock, especially with a foot box like WB or Dream Hammocks, a full length quilt (Underground's or Hammock Gear's) will need a little tweaking to get your shoulders covered along with your feet. It's simply an angle thing, done by lengthening the foot side and shortening the shoulder side pulls. I ended up taking apart the hanging system on both my Hammock Gear and Underground quilts to make each side separately adjustable. Once it was set, I haven't had to touch it again.

    Oh, and...

I like my Frankenquilt on my Blackbird but have used several on there with success. Minor fiddling on some but in time it becomes second nature. All the more reason to camp more))))))

What about a 3/4 length quilt? Obviously it won't get your feet, but does it have the same fiddle factor to get it set right, or does the reduced coverage make it easier to cover the area it's meant to cover vs a full length that you have to pull into an asym?

Fiddling is part of the game, as well as part of the fun (if you like that sort of thing). But for the ultimate fiddle-less, warm hammock. visit www.warmhammocks.com

Does anybody use dutch quilt hooks - I just found them and think they might help. Also, it happens that the first thing I bought here was a used winter yeti. After watching shugs video #8 or 9 I realized that the previous owner had sewn loops midway down the UQ for Shugs extra suspension idea.... So I may have been sleeping on the answer all along!
