Check out the mega hammock
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
Seems kinda heavy to me for its size. If it is only 9x4 that would be of course 108x48 so approx 5184 cubic inches, divided by 1296, which is a square foot, Should be 4. That times 1.1 ounce nylon in materials it should weigh just 4.4 ounces, where do the extra 2.6 come from?
Thread, spectra, and the hem reinforcement. Plus it may have a coating that makes it parachute rated the 1.1 is pre-coated nylon and that is really a true 1.1. For the cost I think I would diy. This should be a $30 to $40. At $60 there are other choices I would make even with a couple extra ounces.
I have several 7oz. hammock bodies sitting in my garage, maybe I should Kickstart them?! They just don't seem to wanna stay connected to my trees though.
I think it's ridiculous to market a hammock like this and advertise the incomplete weight. This is just like the Byer hammock you can get at REI for twenty bucks, but at least it includes a terrible suspension system.
I am liking Kickstarter less and less.....of course I say that now....until I have some great idea for a product. Don't even get me started on funding people's hikes thru Kickstarter....
4 ft x 9 ft = 36 sq ft for the hammock. 3x3=0 sq ft/yd 36/9=4 sq yds 4x1.1= 4.4 oz for the body. 2.9 oz for the edging and small diameter spectra seems real. What disturbs me is the 1000 lb spectra where we usually preach 1600 or higher rated dyneema.
As for the size I suggest anyone interested try a 48 in hammock out of any 48 in 1.9 oz sport nylon. I think the model in the picture is about 5 ft tall. For the average person it is going to be banana time.
YMMV
