    Dimensions for whoopie sling ridgeline

Ok I've searched for awhile and I can find plenty of videos for making whoopie sling suspension but can't find good instructions or video for making whoopie sling ridgeline. I mainly need suggestions on the dimensions. I plan to install it on a 10 ft hammock. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry just noticed I posted this in the wrong area...

    Here's what I did...

Made a whoopie. Left the tail pretty long and cut off what I didn't need.

What I would do now... Make a dogbone 8'4" long and call it done.

I attached the fixed eye to the head end of my suspension. At the foot end, I attached a small continuous loop or dog bone to the suspension and brought it just inside the hammock. Then I made the whoopie sling with the adjustable end looped through that short dog bone. I figured out how much I needed for 83% of the hammock length and made sure I had 6" of adjustment to either side of that.

Just tossing some things out there:

A 6 ft. whoopie sling should offer adjustability between 82" and 112" according to whoopieslings.com:

    http://whoopieslings.com/Whoopie_slings.html

Paul at Arrowhead says he makes his adjustable structural ridgelines (ASR) with a range of 90 to 120 inches, so sounds like he's making his adjustable structural ridgelines closer to seven ft.

    http://www.arrowhead-equipment.com/h...uspension.html

    So the formula is simple:

Length of hammock x .83% = ideal ridgeline length.

In my case, I have an 11 ft. hammock x .83 = 109.56, so a 6 ft. whoopie might be a little skimpy on the high side (112") but perfectly adequate on the low side (82"). A 6.5 ft. or 7 ft. whoopie might give me more range of adjustability, like Paul apparently makes his (90" to 120"). As Mad777 suggests, definitely toss in some adjustability; otherwise it's not an ASR - it's just an SRL.

And no ASR is complete without a Dutch Titanium Ridgeline Biner!

I have some amsteel blue ordered to make some whoopie slings. I planned on making an adjustable ridgeline as well.

Note I have not made any before but I am basing measurements on Ian Young's video
    So, 1 inch taper + 4 inch bury + 6 inches for a 3 inch loop. (11 inches to get 3)
Then, instead of putting the big bury close to the fixed loop, move it +67 then a 10 inch bury. I assume you will lose about 2 inches due to the bury.
So now you are at your minimum ridgeline of 80.
To get to 116, you need 36 to the end and another 36 back + 10 to get thru the loop + whatever tail thru the loop - lets say 6 inches.
So - 11-3+67+10-2+36+36+10+6=171 Or just cut off 15ft (180 inches) to be safe.
I think the key is just to start your big bury 10 inches back from your minimum ridgeline length.

My math may be WAY OFF - Like I said, I have not made one yet, I am just planning this out.

As someone else mentioned, probably just easier to cut enough for the max and use something to hook back on itself to adjust - dogbone?
