    Prussic issues

Okay so I have read through past threads on this issue and I still can't find a good answer. I have a continuous RL of 1.75mm Lash-It, and I want to attach the tarp via prussic. I have tried Lash-it, and beaded mason line and they both take a ton of wraps and still slip even when seated properly. So I want to know, will shock cord stay an keep it tight enough or should I order some 1.25mm Zline? Or should I just give up on the ease of adjustment and go to a 2 part RL? Thanks for y'all's knowledge!

I have been using a Zing-It Ridgeline with braided mason line prusiks for tarp attachment with 5 wraps for a few years now and it has worked perfectly with no slippage.

You could try even more wraps if you are still having issues or try something like a Klemheist instead of the prusik.

Some folks also say that the coating on Dyneema cordage wears off a bit with use which may help with the slippage issues so using fresh cordage may be part of the issue as well?

I use 1.75 Zing-it with 1.75 prusiks - no more than four wraps necessary. Slide the prusik back and forth a few times to wear off the coating and they'll hold fine.

I also use "4" wrap prusik knots to secure my tarps to the RL with very good results. I find that slippage is a sign I haven't properly dressed my prusik or it needs to be redressed.

I have made somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 (give or take a few hundred) tarp suspension lines and guy lines out of 1.75mm lines with 4 wrap prussics to hold them. Just work the knot back and forth a few times and tighten it down and it will hold close to 100 pounds.

If using prussics I'd go with 1.75mm Zingit or Lashit with 4 or 5 wraps. That said, I think the Tato Gear Tarp Connectors are a better solution and I've changed my tarp ridge lines over to them now and haven't looked back. http://dutchwaregear.com/tato-tarp-connectors.html

Climber here weighing in with more food for thought...

A prusik will have more "bite" when the diameter of the rope and the cord that is being attached to it have *more* of a difference in their circumferences.

    In other words...
Small cord on big rope = very secure prusik
Small cord on small cord = yeah I wouldn't trust that too much

That's not to say that it won't work - but you'll get better results if you can use a smaller diameter prusik on a larger cord.
