My experience has been that they work fine as long as your on the ground. Get settled in a hammock and they slide out from under you and end up on top of ya by morning.

Smear some mcnett's silicon on the bottom of the pad in dots, lines, and squiggles. Less sliding around.

The egg-crate foam is open-cell foam isn't it? that would be a big sponge.

Hmmm, I wonder if it would be any different in a double-bottom hammock.

Yeah, it said the bottom of the pad was closed cell, that means it's a sponge with a waterproof bottom.

Went to wallyworld to look at the CCF pads a day or so ago. They have the 20" blue, and the 24" eggcrate looking one. The crate one is labeled as closed cell foam also. This crate looking one is brown/gray I think, dark,(I'm lousy with certain colors) and has two little elastic straps on it.(black straps) The eggcrate pattern is noticeable, but very muted. Thought about getting the blue one, but the one big enough was $10.eighty-something. I believe the crate one was $14something.

I have tried the Wally World egg crate one its an Ozark trail product I believe and an ugly blue color, so brown/gray is close enough haha. The pad is faily thick and buckles and bulges everywhere when you try to fit it in a hammock. How ever it sticks pretty well to my 1.1 oz hammock. I personally have never a had a good experience with a foam pad in a hammock. I never tried with a double layer though.
