Do they provide the exact same lay?
Do they provide the exact same lay?
Technically yes but in my opinion no. I have both and love both. But I personally find the WBBB to more comfortable then the traveler. I sleep just as well in both have no problems with either but have always found the lay of the black bird to be more comfortable. Others would disagree and according to the specs and if I recall correctly even Brandon mentions that the lay should be the same but imho the bird is comfier. Now with that said I have always found hammocks with nets to lay better then hammocks without nets. So even though they should lay the same and are built to lay the same their is still some subjectivity and personal preferences to take into consideration
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.
Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
I've been trying out the traveler I picked up for my brother a couple weeks ago. It feels pretty darn close to me.
Edit: this iphone autocorrect is driving my crazy
I give up. Iphone wins
the traveler lacks the footbox that the wbbb features right?
Exactly. For all intents and purposes, the Traveller is the blackbird - but without the integrated net. Built into that integrated net is the shelf/footbox design of the WBBB. The shape of the WBBB net actually tapers as it approaches the foot end … so therefore it in some ways limits the amount that the hammock can truly spread out, which should, in turn, effect the lay of the hammock.
Caveat: I've never used a Traveller, just a WBBB. So I'm speaking more from a theoretical perspective.
My understanding is that the "footbox" is kind of a myth as it relates to the actual shape of the hammock. The footbox is an extra triangle of bugnet that allows room for the feet and holds the fabric of the hammock at somewhat of an angle, allowing it to feel roomier. I'm almost certain that I have read posts by Brandon at Warbonnet that confirm this, but if any one has contrary information, feel free to set me straight.
I have both. BB is much better for me. The foot box adds a little extra room for my feet and feels less confined to me. I can get a better diag. lay in the BB, but everybody likes different things for different reasons.
Happy Easter
When I had both I found them to be pretty similar but the footbox and bugnet make the BB feel a little more tucked in-more specifically, less excess material flopping around.
