Some machines only had one plug at the machine. The cords split after the plug in unit with one cord going to power and one to the foot pedal.

Before you buy the machine, find out what the cost of the power cord/foot pedal assembly is going to be. It might be more costly than the machine itself or it might not be.

I'd look in more thrift stores for one that's at last complete. You can buy the speed control for about $30 or so shipped but that makes the whole thing less appealing at $70. Around here, a good and complete machine goes for $20-35.

I obviously wasn't very clear on my description. One of my older machines had the two cords (one to power, one to the foot pedal) both coming off the same molded 'plug' that fit the machine. That's what I meant when I said the cords 'split'.

This is opposed to some machines which have separate plug-ins for each of the power and the foot pedal.

Without the model number of the machine, it's hard to figure out what you're going to need or how much the machine is worth.

Does the motor/connector look like this? This is the one on my 1948 I restored. If so, they have replacement cords at Sew-Classic. I used one when I converted to electric control. I did have to rewire it a bit to make the the control work with my machine, but it was around $30 shipped for both parts.

bought it! here are pics. so there is not a pedal, you just plug it in, and push a lever with your hand to sew, insted of a foot padal.

Nice! I have a White Rotary that is the precursor to this machine. (IIRC there is some connection between White and Kenmore) Mine is knee lever activated with the lever mounted on the inside and underside of the cabinet. Where is your lever located?

Mine was also a knee lever. But I found the old mechanical control very unsteady. World of difference switching to the electronic.
