I had a chance to do some family camping at Twin Lakes VA State Park this past week. Worth noting is that they are very hammock friendly. Even though they have pads, they will allow you to hang outside the pads on the trees.

Thanks for the info. I live in Chesterfield, near Pocahantas, to my knowledge, NOT hammock friendly, and it is good to know of another nearby SP which is.
Some of us have been thinking of trying to put together a group hang at Pocahantas. Maybe I can use the fact that Twin Lakes is OK with hammocks to nudge them along.

Another VA state park that is hammock-friendly is James River SP, especially out towards the Branch Pond sites (Canoe Landing sites, there really aren't many trees around). However, when I asked about it at Bear Creek Lake SP they didn't seem to like the idea (of course, that was just the receptionist, could get a better reaction from an actual ranger).
Good to know, thanks for posting
Im also in chesterfield and would be interested in a poco hang
Poco is hammock friendly just so you know... However sites have very limited trees for more than two and sometimes two hammocks are a challenge
