    CA Central coast/Big Surr

Anyone hang around the California Central coast and/or Big Sur area at all?

I just moved to the area and hear there is good camping in the summer, not to mention plenty of trees. Would love to get a trip organized.

I will be moving to the area in the beginning of May. I think I will be a bit North (Santa Maria). I've heard some stories about some awesome places. PM me if you're interested in planning something and I'll subscribe to this thread as well

The Esalen Hot Springs trail is my favorite spot!! You really can't go wrong with any trails...but the hot springs trail is pretty fun!!

Stayed at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, group Site A. There are plenty of places to hang, beautiful camp site away from most of the other camp sites (except group site B), all other sites are over a river, across the road, a good 1000 yards, map here.

Would highly recommend, and would go again.

Wow, I thought I had subscribed to this thread but never got any notices that there were replies.

@jrs62284 I moved into Pismo Beach area and work in SLO, so pretty close to you.

@whoismiketruong, I've heard that trail suggested several times now. With natural hot springs at the end, how bad could the trail be. Lol, sounds pretty sweet to me.

@envyylust, I drove past big sur a couple weeks back and thought it was beautiful. Noticed lots of campsites, but most had "full" signs up. Any idea how hard it is to get a spot?

I'm definitely down to setup a trip if there is enough interest. Anyone have suggestions on a calendar date?

I've only got my schedule into the second week of June. I'm still in orientation this week I'm off the last weekend of May I think the 30th otherwise certain days during the week work for me as well. I just picked up a map of the San Rafael wilderness area last week and was scouting out some stuff in that area. Are you looking more for a camp site group hang or a hike and hang? Typically I am a hike and hang guy, but I'm up for anything.

We coordinated a hike last year to Salmon Creek and it was a blast! The trail can be slippery at times so be careful. There is some great scenery and tons of trees for great hangs.
Happy Trails to one and all.

I just got back from an overnighter in the San Rafael wilderness. I hiked along the Manzana Creek trail. I went 7 miles, camped and hiked back the next day. The hike was great, trails were clear and water was overall pretty good. A nice trip, would like to go further, but it sounds like water can be a bit sketchy especially during the summer months.

I've been busy traveling quite a bit this spring, but my schedule is starting to open up. Anyone free sometime in July?

I'm looking to do a couple trips through September and October but didn't have any specific places planned. Sykes Hot Springs trail will still be jammed this time of year, but all of the other trails in the wilderness are beautiful and rarely traveled.

I live in Santa Cruz, so it's justa hop skip and a jump to get to Big Sur/Ventana Wilderness if anyone else is down.
