    First Hang

I am a member of a pack (well 3) lurkers. We have alot of experience in tents but none in hammocks. Thanks to the information gained primarily on this forum over the last 4 months we gave it a try this past weekend. We all agree that we will never go to ground again unless there is no other choice. Temps. got down to 29 degrees and we are all going to make some equipment changes, but overall, this is just neater than white bread! I posted a couple o pics of this weekend. We also caught a few trout, all released unharmed.

That's great. Welcome to the hanging crowd. Can't wait for picks.

Smithobx, congratulations on your conversion to the "new way", as Ed Speer put it in his book. And welcome out of lurker mode, we're glad to have you here with us. By the way, Ed's book, [U]Hammock Camping[U], is an excellent starting point. Once you you've hung, there is just simply no going back. I can't imagine sleeping on the ground ever again. There's plenty of folks around here with lots o' experience, and they're more than happy to share what they know with others. If you're so inclined, there's a group hangout of the SEHHA (Southeast Hammock Hanger's Association) in Hot Springs next weekend, April 13-15. Feel free to join us, the more the merrier. If you'd like to come, here's the link: http://ww.hammockcamping.com/Assets/HotSpringsApr07.htm

Hey, I'm a native North Carolinian too. I'm just temporarily relocated to Kentucky for almost 11 years now.
