Help needed for a Newbie with his DIY Hammock

I just finished testing out my very first DIY Hammock yesterday and have a few questions for everyone. It’s a gathered end hammock which I used a nylon rope to gather the fabric together. I created a channel which I fed the rope through then wrapped the extra rope around to create the gathered end which I fed my continuous loop around using a larks knot. I then attached it to my DIY Whoopie sling. The problem I discovered is I don’t like how the nylon fabric lies while I’m in the hammock. It feels as if the center portion is higher with the sides more lose. See photo.

My question is what’s a better way to gather the fabric so it’s a more comfortable hang?
