    Sleepless nights

    Hi all,
Maytag here, I have chronic lymes disease, have had it for about 16 years I have a lot of joint/bone pain due to it. I could not tell you the last time I had a full nights sleep until today. I started planning to hike the AT trail last April. As I bought the equipment that I would need to do this, I bought a ENO hammock, I set it up a few times in the ole back yard to get use to how this thing works, I figured it out pretty fast so I purchased a MacCat Ultra trap made by OES, this thing is the best. I put the tarp/hammock aside after I figured out how they worked together not giving them another thought. Fast forward to march 27, 2014 the start of the hike. We left, I had to drop out shortly after starting due to chest pains spent 1 1/2 days in hospital. After I got home a deep depression set in. So I set my tarp and that hammock up in my back yard and actually slept in it for the first time, and to my great surprise I slept all night only waking up once. In my bed or couch where ever I could get comfy enough to finally fall asleep I would wake up 15 to 20 times. Surly only waking up once was a fluke right, not exactly, I have slept in the back yard for the last five weeks straight. I have slept in some heavy down pours and some cold temps down to around 38 degrees I get cold some but the better sleep out ways the cold. Being on disability I can not afford a under quilt at this time, it's starting to get a little warming at night any way.

I have learned a lot about hammocks and how they are set up. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks and God bless
    Maytag

Glad to hear you have found sleep. Welcome to the forums. What are you currently using for bottom insulation?

Good to hear! Quite a few folks here sleep in hammocks full time and have ditched their mattress.

Welcome from Philly, I too have a disability and can not get out camping very often but do enjoy sleeping out in the yard.
When I was a kid the only time we were in the house was to eat and sleep.

Welcome to the forum. I believe on Just Jeff's site " to the woods" there is a SPE (segmented pad extender ) pattern. Easy to make and then fill with wallmart ccf pad. That's cheap and will keep you warm . Add a second layer , if needed, when your winter comes or build a stand to you can hang in the house. Glad hanging has given you some rest.

Welcome to the forums. I have fibromyalgia and sleeping in a hammock makes a world of difference in sleeping better.

Welcome to the forums - Sleepless! Glad you are getting some good rest now! The uninitiated don't understand how good sleep is in a hammock, I was somewhat doubtful four years ago until I spent my first night in one. Best sleep ever!

For cold nights, I use a poncho liner under my sleeping bag. You can get them at Army/Navy Surplus stores for about $29. Throw a couple of hot hands in the bag and you're set!
