Just wanted to say Hi to the community and thanks for the help in the past (I've read a lot of forums, but just now got around to joining). And I thought I'd tell a little about why I like hammocks.
A couple years ago I decided to try hammock camping by diving in the deep end and making a DIY hammock. I was completely stuck on hammocks after my second trip with my setup, when I camped with a group for a week in New Hampshire. A very strong thunderstorm struck which downed several trees, left inches of standing water and forced us to run for the cover of a couple cars nearby. That night everyone was soaked and spent time trying to avoid the puddles in their tents caused by the impromptu streams of rainwater, but me and my hammock were completely dry. Since then I've been trying to lighten my setup, but I'm convinced that hammocks are the most comfortable, most versatile and driest way to spend the nights outdoors.
