    2" seat belt webbing folded and narrowed down to 1" tubular style webbing? Bad idea?

    Hello, I may be ordering a lot of 2" polyester seatbelt webbing that has a rated strength of 6000 pounds test strength;....I wonder what happens if I folded a 10 foot section down to 1" and then run a couple running stitches to lock the width down, if that would have an adverse effect on how strong it is? Basically a similar idea to this; but for tree huggers and cinch buckle hammock connection points;

    I would expect it to have minimal effect on strength, but multiple layers of webbing stitched together become stiffer and may not work well with cinch buckles.

    I recommend getting a sample amount to try out before committing to a large order.

    I fold over sewn loops sometimes to make them easier to clip (with a 'biner) or to thread, and the folded section is quite rigid.

    Well; the cinch buckle things I'm using are tow strap spring cam buckles; like these;

    I'll definitely check and see if the polyester seat belt webbing gets very rigid if folded and sewn down......these buckles can handle the old wal mart camo 1500 pound straps easily; though I do not have enough strapping to use... I replaced the gray webbing loops on my hammock with shorter loops made of that material, and yes I can believe it gets very rigid when doubled over.....

    it might be better if I sew a folded loop to the cam buckle's fixed side, and use 1" tow straps larksheaded to the hammock suspension loops?

    The fold and sew will work fine without reducing the breaking strength of the webbing.
    You may have to custom make the metal fittings because the webbing will be much thicker than normal.
    The other problem related to this for me is how long are 2" widths going to be.
    Have two 10' lengths of 2" webbing for tree straps, but run into many trees where the straps are too short.
    A 3' diameter tree has a 9.5' circumference and the 5' diameter tree has a 15.7' circumference.
    Meaning, a 17' long 2" wide tree strap would work for most of the trees down here.
    Closed loop on one end and some buckle free sliding into the correct position on the other end should work.
    Show us what you end up with and include some photos too.
    Thanks.
