    Super light insulation: Insul Bright

I was rummaging around in Jo Anns fabric store and stumbled on Insul Bright material. It is polyester fiber over a layer of metalized poly film, like mylar. It is breathable (needle punched) and supposed to reflect hot or cold back to the source. It was so light and thin! Has anyone checked this out? I instantly thought of making a summer quilt or supplement to another quilt. Here's the manufacturer site: http://www.warmcompany.com/ibpage.html

edit: it was very easy to tear

I use this stuff to make cozies out of. Haven't tried it for other applications.

Do a search for it. It's a little too fragile (that's Italian, by the way), doesn't compress well and because of its frail nature, constantly stuffing and un stuffing it will cause it to break down. Pot cozies it is. However, if you do make a summer quilt, we'd love to see your results.

OOps. I forgot to search first. Seems like I am beating a dead horse here. Now that I see it, lack of compression is a no go. Carry on...

I added a layer of it in the middle of my PLUQ. It has allowed me to get down to around freezing. As mentioned, it does not compact well. Haven't had any issues with it being fragile in this application.

I made a UQ from InsulBright for a friend. I rolled it up like a sleeping bag. It rolled up fairly small.

Yes, it's breathable. The mylar layer is perforated. Someone mentioned that it is fragile, however the manufacturer says it can be washed without breaking down.
