Does this really feel like the argon fabric that Hammock Gear uses for their quilts? I'm so close to ordering....

It's soft but not quite as flimsy.

+1 - it's more than twice as "thick" but still soft. Honestly, it's noticably softer than standard silnylon of similar weights, but still feels like silnylon. The Argon 67 stuff feels crazy light and different - because it is!

I've made a few DIY hammocks out of Argon 1.6 and would do so as long as I'm good with Brown and Black. Better feeling than anything else out there (and at a great price right now to boot!). But, if I wanted/needed a different color, I wouldn't hesitate to go a different direction.

This is only the best forum on the planet! I was just on the search for something between 1.1 and 1.9 and I stummbed onto this Argon post. I've been in my 1.1 for a few trips and it just has too much stretch for my "keg shaped" body. My old 1.9 was too heavy. This looks to be the perfect compromise. Can't wait for my order to come in!

Sweet! I have some 1.6 set aside for a bridge, but haven't gotten around to it. Why didn't you use Dutch's hardware?

I love how my gathered end Argon 1.6 hammock turned out. Super-comfortable.

I'm sure everyone has different opinions on the topic but I find the brown to be really boring. So is black. I wish there was another color available, something more fun. I realize fun is very subjective. I'm just saying I would buy enough for several more hammocks if you suddenly had orange or minty green or sage or mustard-yellow.

Actually, LOL @ my last suggestion. My wife calls my new one "the number-two hammock" - if you did yellow I could have a number-one hammock also!

I did on my very first attempt. Which ended in failure of the spreaders. I went with the KISS method and just made the eyes that attach to the webbing small enough to capture the pole tip.

I can not say for sure if it was my sloppy build technique or the end pieces that caused the failure. I am inclined to believe it was my sloppy build that encouraged the end hardware to kill my poles. And after seeing my poles shoot across the yard (one of them actually just missed my neck and got my shoulder) I prefer a soft attachment that is more forgiving.
