I have seen the before. Even there "Ultralight" is heavy. They are all very expensive too.
I couldnt get either link to work. That box with the red "X" is there again. Cursed red X! BD
Just Jeff made me do it
I think the Hiker Rest model looks interesting. Neat concept. That looks it would pretty easy to make a DIY version.
Must...resist...making...another...hammock....

It looks like you need three trees to hang it. Coming off the road I sometimes have a hard time finding two without underbrush around them.
If you must choose between two evils, opt for the one you've never tried before
That actually is a really interesting idea. Take away the tarp, which I think is most of the weight. This could be made really easily. Basically take your normal hammock, and make the head end have 2 tieouts going 90 degrees from the hammock. Looks like an interesting work around to a spreader bar. I think the issue would be site selection. You need 3 trees in a "T" configuration.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
The hanger formly known as "hammock engineer".
I don't even think they are using a spreader bar. It looks like it might be rope or something on the Hiker's Nest. Take a look at the Hunter's Nest. There is no spreader mechanism used at all. It just pulled between to trees at the head, with nothing in between. They say this about the Hunter's Nest:
Take The Hiker'sRest, add a "sil-nyl" camo fly and camo booties to hide the several pieces of metal hardware, and you have The Hunter'sNest.

The idea does look interesting... and the tent model looks like it could hold two fluffy dinos. Now I have to resist the urge to go out and try this
i don't think laying in the hiker's rest would feel much different than my top entry type w/ spreader bar.
