I figured but it still looked good. We will have to go for another trip shortly. I want to get out badly.
Fishin', bikin' and hannin'... life is good
I made a video of our section 2 ride and hang. Chuck and Lance did pretty good for being on borrowed bikes. I think Lance went down a few times, mostly due to the bike not being set up for what we were doing. It had clip in pedals and he was having a hard time keeping his regular shoe clad feet on the small pedals, but he soldiered on. I imagine he was feeling pretty beaten up by the end of the day. We had one breakdown when the bike that Chuck was riding broke its chain. A quick fix and we were soon going again. I think I heard that neither had done anything like this before.
I forget sometimes how some of the trail conditions we were seeing can be intimidating to the uninitiated. I've ridden dirtbikes for years on some of the most technical terrain you can imagine and that experience carries over to mountain biking. Any advice or suggestions I made to you guys, I hope you took as me just trying to help.
After a little while of getting used to how the bike handled with all the extra weight, I found myself flying downhills, standing on the pedals, negotiating everything the trail was throwing at me. Fun fun. Well, except for when I was filming with one hand and trying to steer and brake with the other, that was scarey. It takes both hands on the handlebars and brakes in that rocky stuff.
We soon made it to camp and set out to claim a couple of trees for the night. Chuck picked a cool site with an extreme tree to tree distance, but he made it work. I don't know if anyone got pics of the commons area where we hung out, cooked and had a small fire for a while.
Next morning there was no rush to break camp, so we had some breakfast and relaxed a bit and hit the trail by 10am I think. The rest of the section seemed to go pretty quick to me as we made our way to the Judy Gaskill bridge and end of the ride.
We were all ready for some lunch so we drove down to a popular place in Buffalo Creek, or something like that, a few miles away. After lunch, we said our goodbyes and Outandback drove me back to the bridge where I was going to solo section 1. That video to come.

Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

Forgot to mention, Lance aquired his trail name this trip. Gourdhead.
OK, We need the story behind that trail naming.
Really enjoyed your Trip Report TR42.
Man, I need to get withit on the video-ing. It tells the story so much better.
I see a helmet mounted cam in my future.
Thanks so much for taking the time to put the report together and sharing it with us.
If you wonder how quickly the forest recovers from a big fire. That area you rode thru burned in 1996.
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.
