    Bama Noob!

Greetings from the Heart of Dixie!

I am a complete noob to this whole hammock thing. I was on an outing in NE Georgia a few months ago. I was using my Kelty V3 w/ a termarest pad and my Sierra Designs Wild Bill bag. I was extremely uncomfortable being almost 50 with a pretty bad back injury. A buddy had his Clark TX150 and I was intrigued. I ended up buying a Hennessy side zip Safari; I am 6’4” and 250 lbs. I am in the info-seeking mode and am enjoying learning a/b this new mode of sleeping!

Thanks for all the great information!

Welcome to HF from Georgia! Lots of great info here on the site. If you get a chance check out the Cheaha Group Hang coming up in a few weeks. Some nice folks to share a campfire with and see some set up ideas.

    Group hang info here
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Welcome aboard from another Bama boy. If you can make the Cheaha hang this month, there will be a wealth of knowledge there. Stop by and stay a while.

Welcome from Anniston ... we're in each other's backyards! I second aboyd, try to make the Cheaha hang. It'll be my first with this group.

sadly, that weekend is booked for family stuff. I have already upgraded to biners and rappel rings for suspension and rigged up a separate ridgeline for the hex tarp using prussicks and S-biners.

Welcome to the forum, James. I'm just up the road too, in Glencoe. Send me a PM if you need to talk about hammock stuff or camping.

james h, welcome to the forum!

Lots of great info and folks on here. I must caution you about talking to squidbilly..... After his introduction to hammocks, I ended up spending lots of money on some awesome gear!

All joking aside, he is a great guy and a wealth of information.
