    Weather protection

Anybody have any experience with the Bear Burrito Oven or similar weather cover for the BB? The spindrift makes perfect sense for the RR, but my nose literally gets unpleasantly cold and I wind up completely under my quilt. I've considered just a piece of breathable nylon, but a commercial one might be easier. Thoughts?

the bear burrito oven probably won't work with the updated balckbird. Just my 2 cents.

I've never used the BBO specifically, but I do have the BB XLC, which has the zip on overcover, which provides the same benefits of the BBO.

If you're handy with a sewing machine and like to tinker, it's probably worth giving it a shot. One big benefit to that is you can choose from a larger set of fabrics you can order. .6oz Argon from DutchWare would be my first choice.

Otherwise, your money is well spent on a BBO - in the end, many DIY projects take more time than you think. Or, you could always just upgrade to the BB XLC and get a zippable top cover with that...

I have used a BBO as well as a UQP on my WBBB successfully. Do not see where there might be a problem here. Helps with retaining heat by stopping wind drafts as well as keeping high-value gear clean.

I used a BBO and a DIY hammock cover. The BBO fits so well you might get condensation so experiment with venting it at foot end or head end. Love them in cold weather. Never go without one in cold weather.

Thanks for the input. My DIY ideas are grand but I think it's often cheaper to buy one... I have the older BB so no problem there

The BBO works great on WBBB! Very breathable fabric but will stop the wind from whirling into your hammock. Very lightweight and small packed size too.

Awesome. I have another thing to buy. Or make that 2 more things since I'll want a spindrift as well. Slept in the regular BB on Tuesday night, trying the RR tonight. 24 degrees last night so 'll be plenty warm I would think, even itch out the spindrift, but the spindrift looks like you end up with basically a suspended tent. I have a cloudburst over it all and it is truly huge. I would think you could deal with nearly any weather with a spindrift and the cloudburst

Brandon seems to suggest that if you use the Spindrift on the RR you can get away with a smaller tarp, if you wish.
