IN>Knobstone Trail>Trail conditions?

I am going to hike a section of the knobstone this weekend (May 9-11). Does anyone have any idea about what the trail conditions are right now? Water available right now? Trails muddy or dry? Appreciate any info. Thanks!

Give the recent weather conditions and that of the upcoming weekend, there should be enough water to filter in the creeks.

You might want to keep both contact numbers with you on the trail in case of problems. Pretty sure both can cache water and supplies for around 10 dollars a drop. Good luck!

Right now,,,in southern Indiana,,the black knats, and buffalo knats are miserable. Nothing will work on them to keep from biting hell out of you except vanilla or artificial vanilla in a spray bottle...keeps you off them for about a hour..and works like a charm. Big run on it in southern Indiana stores right now, so if your planning on being outdoors down here, get some. Works better than a bug net even. Water is still everywhere flowing off hill sides at the bottoms for sure cause of the 7 plus inches of rain from 2 weeks ago, but starting to dry up,,rain predicted off and on for next week or so, so your pretty good on that in searching you will find it here and there.

Great tip on the vanilla for the gnats. You just probably just upped the comfort for the OP by around 100% with that tip.

knats showed up about a week ago,,and are super miserable and worse each day. Was fishing Patoka Res mid week and even in the 15mph wind and on a lake,,sucked. Mushroom hunting and Turkey hunting right now in the green jungle is even worse than fishing in the wind. So prepare for the knats as well as skeeters and tics. Only time they are not bad is after dark they seem to dissipate and hide. I even have to spray my dogs down when they are outside,,with vanilla as it works for keeping the knats out of their faces and off them as well. Just have to wait and see how much rain we get starting tomorrow afternoon/nite or otherwise,,might have to stage water in the high elevations a bit.

Rain this morning only provided less than a 1/10 of a inch over the half inch we were supposed to get..plan on caching water.

Rain still hasn't developed as of 11pm up this way.

Caching is lighter anyway. You not only don't have to carry H2O, same goes for food. You can also throw a treat or two in, that might not have made the trip due to weight.

One or both of the shuttle services, can not only make caches for you, for a price, but can also run back-up supplies in emergency, should a cache be lost or contaminated. Rare occurrences, but it's good to know you're covered.

Night hiking would be simply splendid atm. Take extra batteries. It can get close in the jungle during the heat of the day.
