off trail exploring in PA. (pic heavy)

Went to one of my local hiking trails, the Mocanaqua loop trail in northeast PA for a day hike. I have hiked all the trails in the area more times than I can count. So I decided to check out some off trail areas that I noticed using my "Backcountry Navigator" app for my galaxy s4. I noticed some rocky out cropping on the ridge. some of the views in these areas were some of the best of all the views in the area, It's a real shame no trail doesn't take you to them.

After some good exploring and picture taking I enjoyed a relaxing lunch in my hammock near a beautiful view of the valley below. Baxter also enjoyed his lunch and decided to take a quick nap. Much more off trail exploring in that area in the near future. The best part it is only a 15 min drive from home.

Great pictures. Bushwhacking can be very rewarding! Thanks for mentioning the Backcountry Navigator app. I'll have to check that out for my next outing.
All those hours exploring the great outdoors made me more resilient and confident

Wicked nice! I love every pic! The scenery is great, the dog is great, the hammock pic is excellent. Keep on keepin on! Or as Tom Petty say's, "Never slow down, never grow old."

Thanks a bunch, the pictures were taken with my new sony cyber-shot dsc-wx80. The backcountry navigator app takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it, it's great and doesn't require phone signal!

Nice pics. It looks like this was a fun outing. I may have to make it up your way to try some of those trails some day.

It is a rare thing for him to lay down on a hike, but it was his first hike of the year with his pack on. I figured he needed to get a work out so he is ready for some backpacking trips. Thanks for checking out my pics!

Yea it's not a bad area for day hikes but overnight camping is not permitted there. It is a shame, but all my gear is earth tone in color.......

I have seen rock climbers camping in that area and they weren't bothered by any one. I will have to look for one of the pictures I have where they climb, they call it the library.

Here it is, pic is from a couple of years ago.

    Great looking pictures.
Looks like you were able to explore some nice locations off trail.

    Love my backcountry navigator app.
