    WY>Best of Yellowstone

Tomorrow, I'm leaving Georgia to work and live in Yellowstone National Park for the summer. I plan on doing a lot of backpacking and hammocking while I'm there, but am not very familiar with the area. What are some hikes, preferably not crowded, that y'all would recommend?

My son is head out to Mammouth Springs next week for the Summer as well. He'll be leading the Sunday services as well. Must say I am more than a bit jealous.

I did a week long backpacking trip last summer through Yellowstone. We hiked in to Shoshone Lake then down the Bechler River Valley then back over the Pitchstone Plateau. I would definitely recommend Shoshone Lake and Bechler River Valley. Pitchstone Plateau was kind of meh...and the trail was not well maintained and difficult to follow. There were some views of the Tetons but if I had it to do over again, I would have chosen a different route. Bechler Valley was totally amazing though...definitely worth the hike. This was actually the trip that made me a hanger...prior to that, I had only done 2-3 night trips and the lack of sleep was manageable. Not so much on a week long trip. I knew I needed to find a better way to sleep and looks like hammocking is the answer...yay! No matter where you end up going, it will be amazing. Yellowstone is such a wonderful place. Even after a full summer there, there will still be lots of places that you did not have time to get to. I am jealous of the adventure you are going to have...ENJOY!!!

Heart Lake - great hike. We did it as a 2 day hike: one day to the lake, next day back.

I love that area - unlimited opportunities - just ask around when you get there and make sure someone knows your hiking plans.
I've only been there off season (May and Sept) and the crowds/tourists weren't bad at all - they stay close to the road.
Just South of there are the Grand Tetons and Jackson - also must explore areas.
I'd love to have had such an opportunity as you have. Just enjoy it and work hard so they invite you back.
Also, learn about the local predators (grizz and wolf). I saw my one and only wild wolf there - wow was that thing bigger than I ever expected. It didn't pay me any attention, which pleased me to no end.

Congrats on landing one of the coolest jobs an outdoorsman could have.
Getting with the locals will be the best way to find the best trails that won't have lots of peeps.

Now that you have posted this great news you better have a camera because we want weekly reports
of all the cool places you find. haha
