    DIY rainfly

Im going kayak/hammock camping memorial day weekend.Just bought my first hammock a WB XLC .Not sure what type shelter I wanted so decided to buy a regular tarp and use it the first time.Set it up behind the house to see what I was dealing with, turned out pretty good. The tarp is staked to the ground on the back side and yes my xlc is under there.Other than weight and size any other downfalls to using a normal tarp???Thanks

Longevity isn't the greatest, but they work and theyre cheap. The biggest downside is weight and bulk. Awesome for getting out though...any time in the woods is better than never going.

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

+1 on this. I used a tarp that looks a lot like yours the first few times I went out. It is now being used by my wife until I get another one and then she can have my DD tarp.

If it covers the hammock, then it has met the most important criteria.
Weight & bulk would be my next considerations. Before you plunge into buying your next tarp, read the current thread on doors vs. no doors.
