silnylon tarp/poncho as a hammock sock.

I've been thinking about getting a hammock sock:

    - it can bump up internal temp
    - blocks wind (which is becoming an issue)

... I've also been wanting some plan B equipment for severe weather or in case of tarp failure.

A silnylon tarp seems ideal... I could wrap it around my hammock like a sock.

I could also use it as a tarp. I could also use it as a ground sheet should I need to go to ground.

    Something like this:

My questions, is how hard is it going to be to deal with condensation and frost buildup?

Is this a real problem or mostly just a minor annoyance.

Yes, condensation will be a very real problem and a major annoyance.

Yeah, I played with the silnylon idea. I tried an open setup: was dry, but cold. I tried a close setup: was warm, but wet.

I'm currently working with modifying the SOL Escape Bivvy Lite. So far, it keeps me warm and dry. I recently used one on the NEEHA Spring Hang down to 27*. Nice, but really confining. I bought a second one to see if I can make a decent sized setup. The only bummer is that it's safety orange - way too bright for my liking!

If I had the cash, I would buy several yards of breathable cuben fiber in camo and make a sock ala HMO/MedicineMan. Alas!

Hennessy's over cover addresses the issue:

Use the poncho's head hole in the same manner, but arrange it to keep rain out.
