Hi there, joined up because I am a newb at Hammocks and need to learn from the forum knowledge bank.
I have brought a Hennessy Safari Deluxe classic and its on its way to me.
I have recently got the bug for backpacking and bivs after having a long break. I am mid-fifties and have had accumulated experience in camping/hiking but I've always had the ground mats on bivs or folding cots in camps. Looking at the gear available now -eg GPS etc etc- its a whole new ballgame. I got a MSR miniworks last week. I tried it out today as well as a used pack I recently acquired, a Mystery Ranch 3 day. Its so nice I made up my mind to sell off my old set of army packs at the back of the wardrobe. I am going for lighter all around. The MR pack is definitely lighter, more compact, more comfy and carries nearly the same amount as the older packs: I did cut out some gear -- today I had a shakedown walk with the aim of cutting out redundant gear and gear that is 'wanted' as opposed to gear that is 'needed'.
Here is the creek and the rocks I used as a spot to do the filtering, enough to fill the canteen.
Here is my hexy brew up (hadn't used this for a few years.. but it still works).
Here is the pack, opened to get at the soup. I plan on stashing the hammock and fly on the outside under the straps that go horizontally across that gut zip.
