Hanging a tarp from this?

So with our move there isn't a place to hang and the wife and kid want to start hanging. Permanent posts in the ground aren't an option and I'd like the ability to move and take it with us when we want to travel.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas for weather proofing this setup.

Add some extension poles in the center of the frame? Essentially making a flat spot in the middle where the guy's shoes are in the picture. This would widen the endpoints, making room for a tarp. Throw some whoopies on the hammock. Thats all I got.

Tarp attached to two hiking poles/long sticks at each end, guyed-out. No alteration of stand needed; easy to bring hiking poles, line, and a few extra stakes.

Depending on the site, you could also use existing trees for the tarp - setup the stand between them.

Assuming you're truck camping, a big awning would provide shade and protection from rain falling straight down; would give you an area of coverage to share with others.

I question the wisdom of extending the weight bearing frame. If your hammock fits in the stand I think I would leave that alone and look at adding the extension piece to the top or ends of the frame. I would think that adding a piece of tubing bent to the desired or required angle at the top may not only be wiser as far as not adding torque to the weight bearing frame but it would also allow the tarp to be placed higher allowing the user to enter the hammock without doing the limbo under the 33" high tarp.

Consider purchasing or making something like kelty tarp poles. This would place the tarp 80 to 99 inches above the ground allowing you to simply walk under the tarp. If you make your own then you choose your height and adjustable. As a bonus you can move the hammock around under that giant winter tarp, you could put a few chairs and hang out while weathering the storm in dry comfort.

Duct tape.....Nuff said... Haha! I'm just kidding. Don't try that. I would try maybe making some sort of triangular wedge that the more you tighten your tarp, the more it tightens into the end. I'm not sure if you understand that, but something you could stick on the end, and attach your tarp to.

X2 on the Kelty adjustable tarp poles. I have two and used one a few weeks ago tent camping where there was only one tree. We had some strong winds and pole was rock solid.

Are you using those for car camping? Being in FL I would have thought bamboo might be a good route. I do like that stand, might have to go see one soon. A local outfitter is rumored to have them in stock. Nearly $80 a pair seems steep.
