My main hammock is a SB original (1.9 DL). Also have a Treklight double, and a Byer's of Maine Moskito Traveler (neat but stretches a LOT).
After a recent really uncomfortable experience tree hanging (as opposed to the hammock stand) with the Treklight double, I thought I'd shop around for a single width, netless one. (I have a couple of nets). I want to have a small and lightweight kit available and the FreeBird is calling.
The website doesn't explain the different types of fabric. It lists them but no comparisons. There's content, weave, and finish! I've read that poly stretches less. Am looking at the black 1.8 oz polyester but what does the taffeta feel like (as opposed to ripstop!)? There's nylon rip stop and nylon taffeta. I think taffeta is a lot stiffer and may not be as comfortable. Polynylon only available for some camo models.
Only two polyester (black and brown) so I'm wondering whether this is not the most popular. If so, why not. Mmmm I believe I read something about samples???? How does that work?
I like a really diagonal lay but am only 5', so will go for the 10' length. My weight requires a stronger fabric so am opting for 1.8 oz.
So, let's talk about fabrics.
