Hanging in the a Roan Highlands

Some friends and I are hiking from Hughes Gap to Carvers Gap ( I think that is the route) in June. They are all ground dwellers. I don't know where camping will be allowed but will I have trouble finding a place to hang? Do I need to plan on ground dwelling myself?

I am nowhere near that area, but i found this with a simple search http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1218553

Is that the same area? if so then you should have plenty of trees to hang on.

There are trees everywhere along the AT in that area so you will not have any problem finding good trees to hang from. Ground dewllers will have to stay at shelter areas as adequate flat camping sites for ground dwellers is a different story. Also be aware of stinging nettles plants along the trail in Hughes gap area. Bring antihistamine just in case. The views are great. You will enjoy this area but it is quite a work out.

I never had any issues finding places to hang when I lived in the appalachians, now that I'm out west it's almost the opposite.

You should be more than fine though.

Having never been there and looking at pictures on the net I thought maybe the whole route was on the balds. Looked almost alpine .

Talked to my friend and looks like the route is from Carvers Gap to Hwy 19. Supposed to be about 20 miles or so. Does that sound right? I'm not real sure I'm planning to just show up and walk. Let someone else do the planning for this one.
