I made a Fronkey Bug net and it is very easy to make and use. I use it with a 11 ft DIY camo hammock. Its plus side is that it is easy to make and does not cost much in materials. The down side is that it is a bit of a pain to use in that it takes a little longer to cinch and or un-cinch it in the dark in case you need to exit fast.

If you're buying gear from another vendor and want to save shipping just ask that vendor if they can make that net for you. Simply Light Designs made a nice one for me.

Thank you Poedog, excellent idea, was wanting to leave the sides just hanging free, but the wind kept throwing the sides around. I like your idea much more than using cord to cinch the bottom.

    Fronkey-style bug net

I'm surprised at the comments about the shock corded bottoms being hard to get in and out of. I've made a few out of proper netting for people and it's as simple as swinging your legs over the edge of the hammock and stepping out. How tight are you cinching them and why?

I am also wondering that as well.

From Fronk's video is looks easy enough and doesn't appear that you have to cinch them too tight as one he lays in the hammock it seals up to the underquilt.

I did the same thing. Jared from Simply Light made me a nice Fronkey-style net that weighs a whopping 4.9 ounces.

I had Jared sew some grosgrain loops on the bottom opening of the net. I use the loops to hang my boots or water bottle.

Question. Do people who use the bug net regularly leave their net on the hammock when they pack it in the stuff sack?

I do. I don't really see why anyone would take it off during bug season unless you're going to use it as a camp chair during the day.
