I've only used style #2, but I have thought about experimenting with non-continuous ridgeline anchors because it seems like the V might enable you to get the tarp lower/closer to the hammock for bad weather. Not so???

No, it doesn't allow you to get any closer. The factors affecting how low you can go is the angle of your hammock suspension and the length of your tarp. The steeper your hammock suspension is the higher your tarp will have to be. If you have a 12 foot tarp you won't be able to pitch it as low as an 11 foot tarp.

I have tried all methods, and am sticking to #2 with my cuben fiber tarp.
Tarp stays separated, and gets connected to the CRL after it is semi-taut.
Upon take-down, CRL gets semi-loose, tarps is taken off, and CRL dismounted.
    Simplicity in its best.

    Ah, ordered last night.

http://dutchwaregear.com/continuous-ridgeline.html -- Yellow Zing-It with TATO Tarp connectors. Going to make hanging a thing of ease.
