    Tomato Pin Cushion?

Since this is the first time I've socialized w/other men that sew, I figured I'd ask here: are there other pin cushions options available commercially, besides the Tomato? I did a quick search on the web & HF & only found cupcakes, donuts, ice cream, etc. i was thinking of making a more masculine version, no offense to the tomato, of course. Possibly a hand grenade or ??? Anyone made one or bought one that doesn't make you hungry while sewing?

Find one of those fake, desktop grenades and put a large, rare earth magnet inside.....I like the magnetic ones better than the old fashoned pin cushions but that's just me.

Just about any stuffed toy will work as a Pin Cushion.

    Didn't know tomatoes were feminine?

I use a small wide-wouth jar (like a small Nalgene) with a magnet thrown in; I guess I'm too lazy for a proper pincushion.
The screw-on lid keeps the cat from messing with the pins in her spare time.

Ha Ha, no, Tomatoes are not specifically feminine, neither are cupcakes or donuts, all of which I love, but they aren't masculine either, not that my pin cushion needs to be. I hadn't heard/thought of magnets or stuffed animals. Good thoughts.

Falling back on my HS and college Spanish, tomato would be masculine and tomata would be feminine.

    Just sayin'

I've had a "tomato" for decades. I don't care much for pin cushions. I leave the pins in the box, pinch out about 6 and string them out along the seam/hem I'm pinning. They get placed back in the box as they are removed. The pin cushion only gets used if I just need a couple of pins.

I'm a girl who sews - I use the magnetic discs. So much easier.

That said, check out Etsy. Even if you can't find what you want, you can usually commission something from the vendors there.

Mine can be seen here at the corner of the table.
