So all i need for the marlin spike hitch is a stick, 6 foot webbing, and thats it? the toggles are the 6 foot straps right? Nevermind saws this video: he explains the MARLIN SPIKE HITCH at about 6 min mark. thanks everybody

That's correct. I think I linked to this earlier in the thread, but the Marlinspike Hitch was demonstrated very well at the 5:56 mark in one of Grizz's excellent videos.

    Problem solved! Next?

I wonder if this method is lighter than the marlin spike + webbing as I assume u are wrapping the amsteel blue on the left around the tree? Or are you using webbing too?

The method pictured is the attachment at the hammock end, not on the tree.

If you simply wrap Amsteel around the tree, because it's so thin it will cut into the bark when you weight the hammock. The webbing huggers are there to prevent that.

The only method that is lighter is the rope huggers concept, but it requires more setup and takedown time than a simple hugger.

Another idea on not loosing my toggle:
Can be done with one hole in the toggle as well.

Also, by sewing the loop in half, it makes it easier to insert the toggle.

Dutch provided the hex aluminum rod for the toggle. Maybe you can "barter" with something for some rod?

That vectrus is a sweet bit 'o cord. I've been liking my UCR made of it, is a way to get the grip without doubling the required length. For reasons unknown (probably operator error) my UCR's of Amsteel don't grab as well, although I've had no issues with the whoopie slings I've made from Amsteel.

SloBro showed many of us the light with those instructions and pics....
