    It's Estrogen ...

Once my neighbor in Pennsylvania and I went to an outdoor show of campers and stuff ... we got a wild hair and bought two t-shirts based on Nancy Reagan's "just say no to drugs" program ... only we had them printed with the slogan "Just say No to Estrogen".

WELL ... wouldn't you know it ... our wives failed to see the humor!

    Go figure!

Never saw that t-shirt after I put it in the laundry ... must have gotten misplaced ... huh?

Lark's head, using the fixed eye splices in the Amsteel.

Actually i was shocked when i weighed the BB vs the heavy polypro from strapworks, the heavy is 6g lighter than the BB (both cut to 6 feet) but nearly twice as thick, very strange. This opened up some new color options for the look of my setup, i got the light blue from strapworks so now it matches my whoppie slings saweeet!

Ok, maybe i missed something, angrysparrow: why do you use an extension for your amsteel-why not just make a 20 feet long whoppie sling instead?

If I did that, with a 4ft hugger and a large tree the whoopie sling itself would have to be used as part of the hugger that contacts the tree. I don't like that for a few reasons, not the least of which is abrasion from some types of rough bark. I'd rather that be taken up by dedicated strands that can be replaced without changing the entire sling.

Also, I don't want overly long whoopie slings. Having so much cord dangling when it's not needed is not ideal. I prefer to have enough sling only to reach my chosen maximum-hang-distance.

How would you have to use it as part of the hugger? If the distance is max you extend it far, if it is close you make the loop smaller-both ways you just attach to the marlin spike right?

I made my slings with 16 feet of amsteel on each end, how long are yours?

We're talking about a situation where the 4ft hugger isn't big enough to wrap the tree when the extensions are used. The extensions are to make the hugger big enough, not to extend the hang distance.

The length of my slings depends on the hammock. 10 or 12 ft is what I am using mainly.

Oh ok, i assumed u chose trees where the hugger always wraps around, so you are encountering abrasion on the amsteel then.I plan to use my hammock on a thru, i would not exoect the amsteel extension to last the whole trip, from the abrasion, so i would just use the huggers at 6 feet.

Very slight so far, but yes. Not enough to be a problem, but I'd rather the abrasion be on the huggers than on the sling.
