Another possibly dumb question. My slings arrived this morning, and they're pretty narrow diameter wise. I'm not concerned about the load bearing capacity, but am wondering how best to attached them to my clark. Surely if I just use the larks head end and loop it through the channel, there's going to be a hell of a lot of stress on the nylon of the hammock itself due to the low diameter of the cord - is there a better way of attaching them to spread this load?

Is there any point at which the ropes become over staturated with water/rain and rain might flow to the hammock? How much rain have you tried the whoopies in?

With my Clark tarp, the point you're putting the tail of the rope, is totally exposed to rain "below" the tail. My tarp only just covers the hammock and not much of the rope. So I'm wondering how to handle the rain hitting the rope on the other side of where the tail goes through the adjustable loop.

There are hundreds of end channel hammocks being hung with the cord going through the channel. If you still don't like it, then whip the ends and girth hitch the sling to the material just below the whipping.

Finally made a set of whoopie slings this weekend after ordering the amsteel last year. Really pretty easy using some twisted 026 gauge floral wire my wife had. Backyard test went fine.

The hardest part was making sure I had the same number of strands on each side when going though the rope for the locked brummel. I had a hard time counting the strands in the weave pattern.

Thanks for all the ideas shared on this forum!

Just received my 40 ft of Amsteel 7/64 yesterday. I've read just about all the whoopie sling posts and am almost ready to tackle my first whoopie sling. I only gave one question: If I'm looking to make a 5 ft (at its longest) whoopie sling, what is the length of Amsteel I need to start with?

    Two questions:

    1) If you were to put the loop on a bend, such as a pulley, would you then, essentially, be distributing your load on two parrallel lines? Thus splitting the average load of about 600# in your suspension to 300#/line?

    2) Where can I find Amsteel Blue? Can I find it in hardware stores or is this camping/backpacking specific where I'll probably need to order it online?
