That's interesting, and has a lot to do I'm sure with the nature of the stock HH cord. The cord on the HH hammocks I've had have a certain roughness in the sheathing that would aid "grip". It's a different story altogether with slippery single braid cords like Amsteel or Vectrus.

Question on the woopie sling. I ordered up some amsteel waiting for delivery and was wondering about water issues with this suspension. Do I need to have a ring buckle near the end of the hammock to stop rain water from running down? Thanks

In my experience it isn't necessary. I didn't get out of bed to look at it during the storm, but I believe the tail creates a low point for the water to follow and keeps it away from the hammock.

If in doubt use half a squash ball although if you are using a whoopie the tail should act as a drip line.

Like Sarge says, water usually isn't an issue. I carry a couple of small strips off of a microfiber towel to act as a drip stop but I've never used the dang things. Guess I'll ditch 'em and save another .1 gram of weight

I just replaced the suspension rope on my Clark UL with a ready made Whoopie Sling and it is great! I had been using Figure 9s, but they ate their way through the Clark rope. Where do you guys get AmSteel rope in modest lengths i.e. 20 or 30 feet? I'd like to try making my own.

    Whoopie to a hammock

Ok, I think I might have missed something....

I watched this vid from Opie0074 on how to attach a whoopie to a hammock. But with the fixed eye lark headed to the hammock, then the adjustable end has to go to the Marlin Spike? If that's the case, will the WS still be adjustable around the Marlin Spike? Right now, I have an S hook at each end of the Travel Hammock.

    Thanks.

    whoopie showing wear

my 7/64 from arrowheadequipment.com is showing strain and wear after basically one or two uses. This is occuring when the line splits on either end to form the loop which straddles your toggle and less as much visible strain, but noticeable, the tail end.

i believe this is due to the movement of the toggle in action. I consider this twisting motion of the sling/toggle as the culprit.

    what to do??
