You're not going to need to worry about the "weak" points with 1/8" amsteel blue. I use a locked brummel with 7/64" and I have never given it another thought.

I'm guessing that most of us are using the locked brummel.

For my first set of whoopies I just used a regular bury about 10" long and stitched it. Never failed once but I now use the locked brummel.

I am in the process of making slings for my HH. My question to all of the hangers out there is how tight do you hang your hammocks? Is there a prefered amount of droop to the hammock?

I've been reading lots here and most folks suggest the suspension hang at a 30 degree angle to horizontal. Check out this thread for a great drawing of a typical setup.

It may also help you to post in the area about Hennessy Hammocks. Folks there may have some tips specific to your hammock. I have a Hennessy but haven't used it enough to really give advice yet.

I know that HH always seems to suggest that you hang the hammock pretty tight. Their videos and instructions say tie "tightly", but generally the rest of us think 30 degrees of droop is preferable as shumway notes. That will put the least amount of strain on the tree and your gear. (by the way- that 30 degrees is measured with you in the hammock so string it a little tighter so when you sit down it will sag to around 30 degrees.)

If you have a structural ridgeline, as all Hennessy Hammocks do, you don't have to worry about your hammock "drooping" - it should lie the same no matter how you hang it. The reason for the hanging angle is the amount of stress on the rope. The tighter you tie the suspension, the more stress is placed on the rope. At 30 degrees, each rope has a tension roughly equal to the individual's weight, so it is generally considered as a good compromise between rope tension and tying height. You can make the angle higher if you want and further reduce the rope's tension, but you might have to take a ladder with you.

Edit: as SlowBro mentioned, you will have to tie it tight to get the 30 degree angle because everything stretches when you hop in. You would probably hit the ground if you actually tied it at 30 degrees.
