Just whipped up my first whoopie sling in about 3 min using guitar string for a fid.

    Gotta order more Amsteel!
Glad it was helpful. (Sorry about the slow response, but I hadn't checked this tread in quite a while) Anyway- Happy Trails.

    Here we go!

I just ordered 60ft of Amsteel Blue. West Marine sells it for $0.43/ft. I checked one other supplier but he wanted me to buy 600ft. NOT! Thanks for the thread!

You don't have to order from reddenmarine.com to take advantage of 95% of their good price. West Marine will price match. Not the last 5% discount to HF, but the rest. That will take you to $.22 /ft for 7/64?

And there's somebody with a web presence selling it even $.02 cheaper, if you can find it and have the West Marine associate confirm it for a price match.

Whoopie Slings seem to be what I will replace my standard suspension with, but my question is what length seems to work best for varied distances of trees and what length webbing for tree straps ?

I had my first Hang the other Day and had no problems with a 14ft distance between trees, but along the trail I was always looking to see if thier was a good spot to Hang just in case I could not walk any further and had to set up camp along the way.

The Designated camping areas (TenT ready) had trees that were over 20ft apart which was great for a nice tenting area
what to do in this situation?

with my standard eno Slap Straps I would have had to go behind this area to find trees the proper distance apart

Six foot tree straps and six foot whoopies is pretty standard. If your local trees tend to be big fellas, then eight feet on the straps.

It's tough when campsites are so geared toward tents. I can usually manage to find two in a corner, but it's always a battle. Do I go out into the brush and increase the footprint of this site? I think most of us try not to do that, but sometimes its the only option you have when you're several hours or days into a hike.

    Thanks Lymphocytosis

Your right I do not want toextend the footprint of the site or smash down brush between two trees at the back of the site

6ft whoopies and 8 ft straps and a eno doublenest
    I am 250lbs 6'0tall
what is the largest distance you think this will allow

Can someone tell me if I did this right? I've attempted to make one this weekend. Any suggestions? Should I do something different, or have any mistakes to fix?

At the longest it's 5.5 ft. At the shortest it's just under 2ft.
I tried to make each bury 10" but they came out shorter.
I didn't do a locked brummel, but I did a fixed eye with sewing polyester along the 10" bury to keep it from gradually slipping out. The fixed eye is about 2".
The tail was made with a bury.
I measured out 12ft of Amsteel at the start.
