I think I have now made 50 whoopie slings this past month. I've used Amsteel Blue, Zing-it, Lash-it, Dacron kite line, ...

I have made hammock suspensions, tarp suspensions, guy-lines, ...

I have a few thicknesses of wire that I use, solid guitar string(G - 015 to 020) is the best for thin stuff, and craft wire for the thicker.

A couple of tricks that I have learned is to use paper clamps instead of marking the rope with a pen. The paper clamp can be used for other things like holding a buried end loop open when needed, ...

Be gentle when milking any buries. Don't squeeze hard, don't pull hard.
Gently stroke a little at a time.
If you rush, tug or pull hard, the bury will lock and refuse to let go unless you gently loosen it back up.

I won't even attempt any analogies here:-)

New to hanging, but just ordered whoopies with my WBBB. What experience does anyone have with their product?

I love mine. Brother in law laughed when he saw me hang the hammock said no way they would hold me (6'3", 275lbs). But was very impressed after afterwards.

    Whoopie Sling Suspension

Yeah, I have not seen the need for a knitting needle at all after discovering the music wire loop. It works for Zing/Lash-it, 7/64, and 1/8" Amsteel.
It is made from .020 guitar string or music wire. Bent just past in half.
You push the loop past where it comes through and opens up, insert the tapered or thinned Amsteel end and pull it through where the wires cross into the loop so you don't have to thread the tiny loop. Easily slides through all the sizes core and can be pushed out any where you like between strands.

Like this on a Zing-it end bury:

I haven't made whoopie slings but I have worked with lash-it. I work in Aircraft Maintenance and have used bits of .020 and .032 safety wire bent and crimped in half and it worked perfectly for that. The .020 was much better suited for the small diameter of the lash-it to be honest. But I suspect when I get around to making my whoopies the .032 will work great. Doubled over I have about a 3 foot tool for each of them.

Maybe it has been discussed and I just missed it but I have read a couple of people say that for whatever reason their bead has cracked/broken. Now I know that the fix is to split the line and tie off a section of rope through the loop to basically function like the bead but since we all love titanium around here does anyone know of a Titanium bead suitable for this?

Forget the beads, splice in a 2" section of amsteel and be done with it.

    Grand Trunk SBP - newbie

I'm looking at replacing the stock suspension in my new GT SBP with whoopie slings - and I think tree straps/toggles which seem to be about the easiest and lightest option around. As a newbie simplicity particularly in adjustment will be important.

Anyway - to attach the whoopie slings to the GT SBP it is better to run the amsteel lines through the channel? One time or two?

Otherwise I'm planning on using it stock for the moment... any other advice about the suspension or an easier/lighter system?

I don't have a GT SBP, but I do have a gathered end hammock with a channel sown in it. I used 40" of 7/64 Amsteel to make a continuous loop for each end which I then threaded through the channel. This allows me to put an aluminum ring to create a water break and also allows me to be modular with the rest of my suspension (since I change my mind quite often.)

I made some whoopie slings today with this excellent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtJGTgpv4dc

Real easy! I used a 0.13 gauge guitar string as splicing wire. Bit thin (hard on the hands), but fine. I made 4, and started with the eyes. Much easier than I thought! I gained confidence quickly. Maybe a bit too quick, because after the eye splices, I moved on to the whoopies and buried ends and... managed to create a whoopie loop on the 3rd one. Of course I discovered that after I buried the end. Doh! Well, at least I learned how to undo an end bury too today.

Question: I measured 5" and 10" for the buries on the eye splices and the whoopies respectively. After burying, these come out shorter. Is that OK?
Still getting the hang of it
