    Strang experience last night !

I have my hammock set up in my backyard. Last week I learned a lesson about leaving my sleeping bag in the hammock ie a hornet in my bag. Now I bring the bag inside each day. Last night I went out to my hammock around 10:30 carrying my bag. I spread my hammock to see if I had any unwanted bed-mates then all of a sudden Bam, I was hit in the face by a panicked bird. It was roosted on my ridgeline. What next !
    There's no excuse for laziness...

but, if you find one, let me know.

    Dude.

I'd almost be afraid to go out in the woods after that. Hornets and bids in the back yard night mean lions, tigers, and bears in the woods.

Last summer I had a wasp that was likely stunned by permethrin and sitting in the bottom of my hammock. Ended up a real pain in the butt although it was likely hurt a lot worse than I was.

I was on an AT section hike in VA a couple of years ago. Set up my hammock, left the bug net unzipped and to one side, fluffed up my sleeping bag so it could air as I did other things. I went about 30 yards away to eat dinner with my hiking companions as it grew dark. When I returned to go to bed, the most beautiful critter was sitting on top in the middle of my sleeping bag, with the biggest eyes. I reached for my camera, but it dashed away. To be only grey with white underbelly, it was amazingly beautiful.

Took some doing, but with aid of a Ph.D. expert on Virginia mammals, determined it to be a juvenile flying squirrel.

After that, and a few times of finding Granddaddy Longlegs, mosquitoes, etc, in my tents or hammocks, I learned to zip them up tight 100% of the time.

LOL.. I actually have bears and coyotes and fisher cats in my woods. Good thing all the moose seem to be up north more!

About a month ago I woke up to the sound of a sniffing critter....it was a huge raccoon standing on it's back legs, that was in the backyard.
