Also recommend the Harbor Freight 1"x15' tie downs, on special now 4 pack for $10. 1300 lb breaking strain, orange polyester. Any 1" strap will work with Dutch Clips.

Not really surprising that a strap mis-used for a use not intended for, fails. In fact, the packaging/safety stickers on these usually expressly state something like "not intended for use where human safety is involved."

Rated strength for lines for human use or not for human use and margins of safety are different. So is the quality control, or lack thereof.

There's really no reason to use crap, when proper gear is readily available, inexpensively.

If you want some good webbing straps, contact Gary at readystrap http://www.readystrap.com/ reasonably priced and will make them any length.
Great guy to work with and responds to email.

I have used NRS straps with great success.

These are rated at 1500#, including the buckle. Bombproof. None better. Not part of my usual setup, but as I am a boater I occasionally use them for oddball setups.
